Is this a good course to take if I want to create apps and simple games on the Apple app store? I will work very hard, and am not looking for the simplest solution but the most effective one. I am new to Computer programming and I would like to know what the best language would be for my goals. I have watched two lectures from this course and it seems to be a good starter course but I'm not sure its the best for making apps. Thanks, Harrison Canning
If you haven't gotten your feet wet with programming, 6.00 from OCW is absolutely excellent and a perfect starting ground. Unless you already know about classes, inheritance, polymorphisms, etc, you are taking the right class. On the other hand, it doesn't specifically tailor to creating games (python is rarely used for such purposes), but making such apps is impossible no matter what language you use without a firm understanding of the material in 6.00, so go for it!
Ok thank you very much!
welcome!
If you're going to do apps for Apple, you'll pretty much need to learn Objective C and Objective C++. Apple basically forces you into these languages. Go for 6.00, during your education you'll be exposed to a number of languages for various reasons. Right now, the generic programming knowledge that you get from 6.00 is the most important part.
I think you should just go start learning Objective C+ right away if your main goal is creating apps for Apple. But if you feel you want to learn python side on, then 6.00 is okk
If its what you want to achive then go for it and dont let people cloud your disission i say if you want to then do it its up to you dont let any one tell you otherwise.
I would recommend you to learn Swift, it is a new programming language introduced by Apple in 2014 WWDC. Swift works along with Objective-C and it is very simple. If you can, take an AP Computer Science class, it will tell you what to do. For iOS Game Development, you need to get your coding skills up because games are based heavily on codes. If you are making an app for standard uses, the WYSIWYG XCode IDE covers a lot of the work already, there is very little code to work on.
Thanks guys, I will continue to learn python, but I will take up Objective-C and Swift as well. I really appreciate your help.
