Verify [(1-2sin alpha)/(cos^2 alpha)]-[(1-3sin alpha)/(1-sin alpha)]=3 tan^2 alpha

How far can you get on your own? Generally it's a good idea to try to combine all the fractions together or convert everything into only sines and cosines instead of the other trig functions.

I believe I can get to the answer, I just have trouble getting the problem started.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Start by combining the two fractions. It seems like you won't have to use any of the really weird trig identities since there isn't anything like sin(2alpha), it's all on the outside which is good. Try getting something, anything that's the same but different than what you were given and work at it. Sometimes you just have to believe in the math and start playing with it and not hesitate.

Okay, thank you! I was wondering if I'd be doing anything with trig identities for this problem and that's what I was mainly concerned with.
