I cannot figure this question out for the life of me... I have to solve the system of linear equations 6x+y=1 and 7x+2y=-3 using substitution. I know I will first solve for y in 6x+y=1. After that i am stuck, help please?

OpenStudy (kohai):

So for substitution... It's kind of tricky. You have to get a variable by itself and plug it into the other equation

OpenStudy (kohai):

So for 6x+y=1, you can do y=-6x+1. So then you'd plug "-6x+1" into the y portion of 7x+2y=-3. 7x+2(-6x+1)=-3. Now you're going to solve for x

OpenStudy (kohai):

After you solve for x, you're going to plug it back into that equation to find y
