OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

it was supposed to be a screen shot but the picutre isnt opning right

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

okay i fixed it

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Well set x to the number of trips taken Set y by the number of buckets received coordinates are denoted as, (x,y) so you are looking for the graph with points (1,2) and (2,4)

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

This video can help to understand the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSmFzOpxhbY All this f^(-1)(x) means is they want you to find the inverse of the function. To do that you take the original function and set, x to f^-1(x) and f(x) = x

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

since f(x) is just another way of writing y, y = (3x-1)/2 to find the inverse, x = (3y - 1)/2 solve for y and you have your inverse, I recommend watching that video though, if you want to understand the concept, this guy is really good for highschool math

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so the answer is 1?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

the f(1) or f(3) is the function when x = 1 and x = 3 respectably

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

wait the answer is 1or 3?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

No

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Check your algebra

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

or watch the video

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

so its 5?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

You shouldn't have to ask, you should just know what the right answer is. if you are getting stuck with the algebra show me your work.
