I'm currently in the first sem of Foundation in Engineering. Somehow I was admitted into the uni even though my math results were not up to the requirements. It's finals soon, and I realize that my math is not as good as needed, and am on the verge of failing both Algebra and Pre-calculus based on the mid-sem exams. Since mathematics is the single most important subject in Engineering, I doubt I can survive the foundation course, let alone the degree course later on. Should I change course? Maybe something Business/Finance related?

It all depends on your will power. I will not give a lecture but if u really pursue engineering as your goal then work towards it. I thought the same way as u did....but if math is tough that no where means that u cannot do it. Business/Finance is also a good choice... i will be able to provide more information if i knew what grade you are in?!

@MaimiGirl I'm currently doing Foundation in Engineering, which is basically a more specific A-level course geared towards Engineering.

so you imply that you find math difficult and thats all, right?

@MaimiGirl Sorry for late reply, busy with finals this week. So yeah, basically that's it. I guess it is a matter of finding time to catch up and as you said, will power as I find math interesting and fun when it's solvable, haha :)

great

One of the largest reasons for problems in math is that people don't get 100% every class. Lets say you had a 90%+ student. So in every class they get 90% or more. By the end of secondary education, the 10% here and there that they have gotten wrong adds up to a little here and there that they have missed. Then they go into trigonometry and calculus, two topics that strongly test every piece of math you learned before them. Suddenly they begin to slip. Going over every bit of math from primary education on is worth it at this point. Use a site like Khan Academy ( http://www.khanacademy.org/ ) where you can get instant answers. Don't use a calculator. Most things you should be able to work through really quickly. A few you will find you have forgotten or never learned properly. These holes in your understanding will get filled in through this work. In the end, you should be far more prepared for moving on with your education.
