@Hero can you please help me.. i have the answer but i just want to make sure.. Which graph models the function f(x) = −2(3)x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would you like me to help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure... Please

OpenStudy (aum):

\(\Large f(x) = -2(3)^x \) |dw:1404934429804:dw|

OpenStudy (aum):

As x->infinity, f(x) -> -infinity As x->-infinity, f(x) -> 0 At x = 0, f(x) = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. So this equation is in the form of y=mx+b called slope intercept form. We know that the slope m here is... well first, can you clarify that the equation is as @aum has shown? And not f(x) = -2(3)x - rather f(x) = -2(3)^x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okk,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is it \[f(x) = -2 (3^x)\] Or \[f(x) = -2(3)x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will take f(x)=-2(3x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And would you like me to walk you through how to make an x|y plot so that you can graph any equation on your own in the future, starting with this problem as an example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aum I think she is writing the problem wrong, would you agree it is f(x) = -2(3)^x?

OpenStudy (aum):

Yes. It is -2(3)^x. lilystacy: You can answer if it is the first one or the second one that cosmicchaotic posted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean yes please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okk...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so with the problem \[f(x) = -2(3)^x\], which is I think what you are trying to show, we just need to assign x some values and then see what f(x) turns out. I like to start with x = -1, 0, and 1: like so|dw:1404934931170:dw| Is the first step. Are you with me so far @lilystacy ?

OpenStudy (aum):

None of the links work. It is for registered, logged in accounts only.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do no give your login/account info to anyone ever @lilystacy. Just for future reference.
