@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

How far did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need someone to check this and direct me to the right answer. ->Nate: So the area of a single layer is 16pi or 16π . That means that the area of the 3 layers is 3 times this, so 3 Layers=3(16π in^2) Nate=48π inches --------------------------------------------- -> Katrina: So now we compare this to Katrina's frosting, so there are 5 layers, . Since Katrina has 5 layers, it would be 6(9π)=54π inches Therefore, Katrina uses more frosting. @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the first part is correct the second part should be 5(9π) and NOT 6(9π)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nate: 150.72 inches Katrina: It's not 6(9pi) ? O.o

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you wrote 6(9π)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it should be 5(9π) since there are 5 icing layers (not 6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... Crap,I think I'm doing this wrong. Can we just start over?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You did the first part correctly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nate baked 3 cakes using a circular cake pan of diameter 8 inches. He plans to make a layered cake with one cake on top of the other with frosting only in between the cakes and on top of the third cake. That is the first half, so my work reflects all that?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes it does

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, so next part.. -Katrina made 5 cakes using a circular cake pan of diameter 6 inches. D= 6 -She plans to make a layered cake with each cake on top of the other and frosting only in between the cakes and on top of the 5th cake. - The height of frosting in both their cakes is the same.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So you just need to find the area of one circle Then multiply by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5(9pi) ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nate: 150.72 inches Katrina: 141.37 or 141.4 in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After that I believe that's it and you just have to find the answer, but Idk the wording throws me off.*

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What's the difference in the two results?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's A. , but I don't get the 602 part..

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What difference did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9.35

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm getting 48*pi-45*pi = 9.42477796

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I used a calculator to get that

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So that means Nate's total area is 9.42 sq inches larger than Katrina's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah I plugged in the wrong #'s, it's D. Thank you soo much :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well you rounded which is why your answer is off a bit but 9.35 is close to 9.42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
