more help with descending order please... I've got this question: 4x^2+2x and my incorrect answer was this: 4x^4+0x^3+0x^2+2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i put +x^0 at the end or something?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Look at the question again please, in particular look at the value of the exponent :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the +2x at the end? that would be +2x^1 , but would i have to write it like that? or couldn't I just leave it as is?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What is the value of the highest exponent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4th power, right? so i add in descending order to 1 power... i'm not really sure

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes, the 4th power goes first. Now look at your incorrect answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know what is incorrect about it

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

$$\Huge 4x^2+2x$$

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

This^ is the question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow. thank you...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but would that be right if that was the question... for future

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Math teaches us that good problem solvers learn from their mistakes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks man!

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Thanks for asking questions and trying to learn something new :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

woahhh wait skull...

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

there should be a constant term on the end of + 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):
