I was making random equations to practice graphing, and here's one of my equations. y = 5x - 2 I tried graphing it, and I then checked with mathway and the co-ords for the equation were (0,-2) (i understand that ordered pair), and the other pair was (1,3) and I have no idea how to get that. Please explain!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In your equation you have y=5x-2 where the slope is 5/1 and the y intercept is at -2 or (0,-2) which is where the first point is. To find the second point since the slope is 5/1 you go up 5 and to the right 1

Does that make sense?

So, if my MX value is 7x, my pair would be up seven, and to the right once?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that is it. The slope is always rise/run and if there is nothing on the bottom of the fraction it is 1.

A medal to you, my good sir! :D
