a line L1 has a slope 5/6. the line that passes through which of the following pairs of points is perpendicular to L1 (1,-4) and (-4,-2) (2,4) and (3,-2) (3,3) and (2,-3) (0,4) and (5,-2)

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

any idea/attempt ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no idea cause idk what its asking

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

the required line is perpendicular to the given line. The given line has a slope 5/6 So the required line has a slope.. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6/5

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

Correct. Now can you tell me the slope of the line which passes through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) ?

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

1 and 2 are in subscripts

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

problem ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah cause i dont know how to do that

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

If a given line passes through the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) , then its slope is given by (y2 -y1)/(x2 -x1)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

use the slope formula : slope = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) to find the slopes of the points given. Whichever one has a slope of -6/5 is your perpendicular line
