What are the bases of writing a story?

OpenStudy (larseighner):

There is a certain school of thought, supposedly upheld by the literary elite, that a story now is just a certain number of sentences, which if piled up to a certain level can be called a story. If the sentences are grammatical and contain a number of buzz words in French or German, leaning heavily on psychiatric terms, then they could be composed more or less at random by a computer with a smart parsing engine. And supposedly you can find this sort of story in the New Yorker or Harper's or collegiate literary reviews. However, if you can bear to read enough of this kind of literature, you will discover, really, that they all hinge on conflict, as much as the cheapest detective or romance novel. True enough the conflict is not always a good guy and bad guy going at each other with nuclear bazookas. At the high end, conflict is often between wishes and reality, dreams and bricks, sighs and sirens, but always there is some. So I say conflict must be one of the bases.

:o wow, just wow @LarsEighner That was a great description. I agree though, the basis is usually the conflict, and that's how you reach the climax and then the resolution.

You must have a theme, characters, and a conclusion to a story as well. Even if the conclusion is a cliffhanger, which doesn't seem like a conclusion, but it is... hehe

OpenStudy (larseighner):

Some terminology: AGON: the conflict AGONY: not suffering for its own sake, but the stuff of the AGON ProtAGONist: a party of the AGON AntAGONist: another party of the AGON.

step one theme step two characters step three settings step four the place step five most one of all title have a good luck
