How can relationships be improved between different social groups in a country?
This was actually the second question @e.mccormick
Well, think about relationships in general. What are some big things that help build relationships?
1st : Be open with them and don't lie. Nothing ruins friendships more that lies. 2nd : Find common interests between the parties in the relationships that they can enjoy’ 3rd : Relationships should be flexible, meaning you should be able to do pretty much anything together. 4th : If the other person wants to do something you don’t like doing, don’t say you're not doing it because it’s not something YOU like. Be considerate and do it anyways to show you care. 5th : if you have issues with meaning loyal, then your relationships will be pretty bad and if you're the initiator when it comes to hanging out or you're the one always sending the first text, for months or even years, then that’s a relationship you want to cut off 6th : Be open to change. 7th : Don’t ignore problems. 8th : Don’t attack someone directly; use “I” statements to communicate how you feel. Anyways to make my relationship stronger or to make any relationship stronger you need to find something that binds you together that's deeper than sharing food at lunch in elementary.
Along with that openness, one of the big things is communications. Let me give some real world examples again. There is a guy who is being very effective in helping to calm Middle East relations. How? By having people take a trip and say with locals, seeing their viewpoint, and learning about them. In the USA, there are a few presidents who are known for getting political parties to work together. How did they do it? By having people over for dinner, etc. Get away from the cameras and the people and just talk. Get to know each other and the foundations of their views. In South Africa, India, and the USA, some of the greatest changes ever made were done by communicative leaders. Mandela, Gandhi, and King were all well known for promoting and participating in peaceful negotiations. They used words to increase awareness and while they might condemn their opponents actions, they did not use violence to counter things.
These examples are perfect, but again how are they improving relationships?
Here is the source for one of those. Makes it easier to understand how it is working: http://www.ted.com/talks/william_ury
