Solve: -25 < 5x - 15 < 60

Ok, so we are going to want to form two inequalities from this. The first step is to get that darn x by itself somehow. Think of the inequality signs as = signs for now while applying operations to isolate x. What can we do in the middle part (5x-15) to get 5x by itself?

add 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very good! Let's add 15 to the left And right side. What do we get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75

Hold on one second. We are adding 15 to -25 on the left and adding 15 to 60 on the right. Right? So on the right, we get 75 sure. But what do we get on the left? And what does the inequality look like after we do these operations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the left

Solve: -25 < 5x - 15 < 60 |dw:1405192318780:dw|
