A ball is thrown horizontally from a 12m -high building with a speed of 7.0m/s . How far from the base of the building does the ball hit the ground?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, I just figured it out.. :) i got 11m

OpenStudy (aaronq):

the vertical and horizontal velocities are independent. so first you wanna find the time it takes to fall so if it doesnt have any vertical initial velocity, then it's just in free fall. Use: \(\sf\Delta y=v_{o,y}\Delta t+\dfrac{1}{2}a_y(\Delta t)^2\)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

ohh okay lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That formula always trips me up with all the symbols :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you Aaron!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yeah theres too many subscripts lol no problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (aaronq):
