Given the functions j(x) = 3x^2 - 2x + 5 and k(x) = 3x^2 + 4, which operation results in a 1st degree polynomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply either of the equations by a -1 and then add the equations this would cancel out the x^2 term and u get a one degree polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u get it??? @alliekat06

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Since the functions j(x) and k(x) contain the common term 3x^2, a subtraction will result in a linear function. @alliekat06

@alliekat06 Are you there? did you get it?
