Select the equation of the line that passes through the point (3, -1) and is perpendicular to the line on the graph. A: y= -1 B: y= 3 C: x= -1 D: x= 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get that? I've been puzzled with this one for several minutes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so i use geogebra for this it is a app for the computer and i plug in the point (3,-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh lol I have geogebra but didn't even think of using it... Wow I feel dumb for not thinking of that sooner...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so after you do that you want the line to pass through (3,-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and perpendicular would be across and y=-1 is the only one that goes through 3,-1 and the line goes across

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it... I got like 2 more of those kinds of problems left... I'm gonna try to use geogebra for them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok good luck!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Though this one says Write the equation of the line that is parallel to the line 4x - 3y = -12 and passes through the point (-3, 4).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont really get what they mean by that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so then you would plug the equation and the point into geogebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once both of those are plugged in put all the choices in and now the criteria has to fit both so the line drawn has to be at a 90 degree angle to the line and passing through the point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got y=-3/4x+8... does that sound right to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, ok so yes it crosses through the line but it does not pass through the point (-3,4) try plugging in the other choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually hold on one sec I'll try those

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok!
