Geometry 16 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which point lies on the line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got y=3x+11 and put it in the calculator but nothing lines up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not \(y=3x+11\) you forgot to distribute the \(3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you DO have to distribute it? Ugh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://my.hrw.com/math06_07/nsmedia/tools/Graph_Calculator/graphCalc.html this is a graphing calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is why it is called the distributive law, not the distributive option it is not optional multiplication distributes over addition always

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it. It's y=3x+17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes although you really don't need to do this for the problem, it does make it easier your job is to check all those points and see which one fits the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example \((-2,13)\) is not the right answer because if \(x=-2\) then \[y=3\times -2+17=-6+17=11\] not \(13\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! I got it. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

did you get it ? just sub in your answer choices into the equation and see which one is true. I will try the first answer choice... (-2,13)...x = -2 and y = 12 now sub y - 8 = 3(x + 3) 13 - 8 = 3(-2 + 3) 5 = 3(1) 5 = 3 (incorrect)...so this one is not true. just do the subbing like I just did and you should get your answer

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oops..y = 13
