can anyone explain me why they have taken vx=0 and a(x)t=gsin(theta) in method one http://snag.gy/AKFdL.jpg

It sounds like you're trying to find the time it takes for the ball to reach the highest point correct? When it's at its highest point, the velocity is zero because it has just stopped moving upwards and is about to turn down and fall. Although the angle part is sort of confusing me because I'm not sure what this means. It sounds like you're trying to drop the ball down a slide maybe? I'm not really sure what I'm looking at here to be honest. What is it that these equations are trying to model? Anything I've said is just speculation.

yep
