Is this simplified correctly? (3x^2 + 8) - (2x^2 + 1) 3x^2 + 8 - 2x^2 - 1 3x^2 - 2x^2 + 8 - 1 x^2 + 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anything else ?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, I have some more to check. Just a moment, let me type them in...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oay

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

(5x^2 + 3x - 4) - (x^2 - 6x) 5x^2 + 3x - 4 - x^2 + 6x 5x^2 - x^2 + 3x + 6x - 4 4x^2 + 9x - 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats right too

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

How about this one? (10x^2 - 5) - (12x^2 + 4x - 3) 10x^2 - 5 - 12x^2 - 4x + 3 10x^2 - 12x^2 - 5 + 3 - 4x -2x^2 - 8 - 4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that one isnt correct it will be -2x^2 -4x -2

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Where did I go wrong? Can you explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look it will be like this 10x^2 - 5 -12x^2 -4x +3 -2x^2 -4x -2

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

I still don't understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you look at the problem you post is it like the one you have or you have wrote it incorrectly ?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

It's the same. But I don't understand how you got -2 at the end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because -5 + 3 = -2

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Oh, I see. I was thinking minus 5, but it's really negative 5. Now I understand.

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw anything else ?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

I have 7 more. Let me type them in...

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Oh, one more question about the last one. Does it make any difference if I write the answer as -2x^2 - 2 - 4x instead of -2x^2 - 4x - 2 ?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

@Hamoody1996 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

absolutely not but according to the formula ax^ + bx + c it is more popular to be -2x^2 - 4x - 2
