Five members of the football team and five members of the track team ran the 100-meter dash. Their times are listed in the table below: Football Track 12.5 12.4 13.4 11.6 12.2 11.5 11.5 12.4 14.1 13.5 What is the difference of the means for the two groups?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mean is the "average" of a set of data. To find this, add up all the numbers of one category together (ex: add up all the times of the football members), then divide that by the number of times, which in this case is 5. Do this to both sides, and then to find the difference, subtract the mean of the football times from the mean of the track times.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

Find the mean value of the football guys by adding all the times together and dividing by the total number of times, which is 5. Do the same with the track guys. Then subtract the lower from the higher.

ohh ok thanks. :-)

OpenStudy (imstuck):

You should get a difference of .46 The football guys run slower so their mean is higher.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what i got, .46. thanks you guys!

OpenStudy (imstuck):

TY for the medal!
