can some one help me with this function operation If and g(x) = 5 – 2x, evaluate f(x) – g(x) for x = 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is f(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the f(x) will be\[f(x)=2x ^{2}-4x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so simply substitute for x=5 in the f(x) , then substitute for x=5 in g(x) then subtract your f(x)'s answer - g(x)'s answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then the answer would be 15 because \[2(5)^{2}-4(5)-5-2(5)\] would equal 50-20-5-10 then u sutract 50 and 20 would equal 30-5-10 then it would be 25-10 and that would equal 15 right?

sorry i had to step away for a second, you got the f(x) part correct, however when you substitute 5 in g(x) you get 5-10=-5 so 30-(-5)=35
