Two children, who are 224 meters apart, start walking toward each other at the same instant at rates of 1.5 m/sec and 2 m/sec, respectively (see the figure). for the figure see the link https://www.webassign.net/swokatclassic12/2-2-017.gif (a) When will they meet? seconds later = ...? (b) How far will each have walked? child with the rate 1.5 m/sec = m child with the rate 2 m/sec = m sorry something is wrong to my post button.. but is that equation fr letter b..? is it 64 and 63 or just 96/1.5 and 126/2..? oops 126 is wrong..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x/1.5+(x-224)/2=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=96,126

OpenStudy (anonymous):

96/1.5,126/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a)64 sec time,b)96m,126m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooppss.. 126 m is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey @dg2 the 126 m is wrong.. im quite confused on how did u found it.. haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

128 m.sorry its typo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh.. haha.. its ok.. but still im confused on how did u solve it.. haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have another question..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A workman's basic hourly wage is $14, but he receives one and a half times his hourly rate for any hours worked in excess of 40 per week. If his paycheck for the week is $959, how many hours of overtime did he work? hr = ..? icant derive a formula from this one..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

speed=distance/time so 224 distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x distance travelled by 1.5m/sec and x-224 is covered by another

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh.. ok.. now i got it.. hwaha.. im not good at word problems.. thats why i asked how did u solve it.. haha..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my second question.. i cant derive a formula from that equation.. im confused at this part of the question.. but he receives one and a half times his hourly rate for any hours worked in excess of 40 per week... haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait for 5 minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha.. ok..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$959/40 =23.975 excess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait something went wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is how many hours of overtime did he work? so im gonna multiply it to 24..? or its just 23.975..? haha.. are u using some kind of a website or app for this..? or pure mental solving..? haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh..? what..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see not like that.14*40=$560 per week

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14*1.5=21 for excess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 959-560=399

OpenStudy (anonymous):

399/21=answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that it.? ahh.. multiply it to 1.5 not 1/2 haha.. thats why im wrong.. im multiplying it to 1/2 and then i also didnt know that i need to multiply 14 to 40 then minus it to 959.. ahh.. haha.. tnx..
