Starch and ATP can both be described as molecules that store energy. Compare and contrast starch and ATP in terms of storing energy and supplying energy for a cell’s work.

Energy storage Both starch and ATP store energy, but for different lengths of time. Starch is used for long-term energy storage, but ATP is not, since it will spontaneously hydrolyze into ADP and Pi. Supply energy Reactions and processes that require energy in cells cannot directly use the energy stored in starch, but they can directly use the energy "stored" in ATP. In fact, starch has to be catabolized to form ATP so that cells can then use the ATP.
