A group of 60 children attended an after school club. Of these, 35 children play football and 29 play hockey. 3 children do not play either football or hockey. Draw a when diagram.

Do you know the total number of children?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Ok so 60 children in total. We have 29+35+3 = 67 in total but only 60 children.. so there are some children that must play both sports. We know 3 don't play either sport. This is in their "own" category. That leaves us with 67 - 3 = 64 But in reality there are 60 - 3 = 57 actual children. So, the number of children doing both sports is 64 - 57 = 7 You can now draw the Venn diagram... Total number of hockey players is 29, but only 29 - 7 = 22 play ONLY hockey (and not football) And total number of football players is 35, but only 35 - 7 = 28 play ONLY football (and not hockey)
