OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Someone Teach me please! Question is below.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Lines p and q are parallel. Explain how to determine the measure of angle E.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I'm not really sure how I would find the measure of angle E.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Rather then telling me what angle E is, may you please help to direct me towards the answer?

OpenStudy (phi):

the arrows on the ends of the lines labeled p and q mean they are parallel lines (that is important, because we can use some rules)

OpenStudy (phi):

notice that line q intersects line t think of an intersection, with a building at each corner. In one of the corners, we have the 83º building. Here is the important idea: at the *other intersection* (formed by line p) in the same corner, there is the same "building" 83º in other words, you can label one of the corners in the other intersection as 83º which one ?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

I drew it, so I can have a visual. I'm kind of confused by what you are saying, are you asking what angle is equal to 83?

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

Because that would be angle G I believe.

OpenStudy (phi):

you see the 83 is in the top left corner. That means the 83 will be in the top left corner of the other intersection (It is called "corresponding angles", but it is easier to remember it as "the same corner" (for me anyways) yes G is 83

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

So then how would I determine the other angle measurements? I apologize If I'm slow. ;;

OpenStudy (phi):

once you get the corresponding angle part, you have to know two other things a line is 180º, so the angle d plus 83 adds up 180 (actually that is all we need to know, because then we can find angle e) but another rule is the "vertical angles" are equal. all that means if you make an X the top angle = bottom angle |dw:1407625702615:dw|
