Does anyone know the answer to this? Longitude and latitude are measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds. This is quite similar to our measurement of time. Why is this so?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

in longitude and latitude how many seconds are there in a minute? and how many minutes are there in a degree? compare that to how we measure time: how many seconds are there in a minute? how many minutes are there in an hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so they're similar because each degree is measured in 60 minutes or seconds which is the same as time?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

in longitude and latitude how many seconds are there in a minute?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

correct, and how many minutes are there in a degree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so tis like our measurement of actual time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its*

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yup :) so this corresponds to how we measure time in minutes and seconds as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome thank yoU!

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yw :)
