Easy Algebra Question?
Given the equation 3x - 3 = 6x + 1, select the reasoning that correctly solves for x. Add 3, subtract 3x, then divide by -3. Add 3, subtract 6x, then divide by 3. Subtract 1, subtract 3x, then divide by 3. Subtract 1, subtract 6x, then divide by -3.
The answer is x = -4/3. I don't do it the same way it says so I don't know which one is right.
@ganeshie8 hey again
the second one
Tried that one before, it was wrong.
its correct..let me show you how
I thought it was correct too but submitted with that answer and said incorrect
The way I did it before was, "subtract 6x, add 3, and then divide by -3". There is no option for that though
true..i agree with you. I have calculated and seen that if it was "divide by -3" it would have been the answer
any ideas then?
try each choice. First choice Add 3, subtract 3x, then divide by -3. 3x - 3 = 6x + 1 add 3 (to both sides) 3x -3 +3 = 6x +1 +3--> 3x= 6x+4 subtract 3x: 0 = 3x+4 divide by -3: 0 = -x -4/3 we did not get x= answer. so toss this choice
okay. i'll try 3
you said the 2nd choice does not work. OK, let's try the third Subtract 1, subtract 3x, then divide by 3. 3x - 3 = 6x + 1 1) subtract 1 from both sides: 3x -3 - 1 = 6x +1 -1 3x -4 = 6x 2) subtract 3x: -4 = 3x 3) divide by 3: -4/3 = x that looks good
Yep I got same thing. It was right too. Thanks!
