Referring to the figure, write an equation of the line shown in the
graph. Use the slope and y-intercept format: y = mx + b
OpenStudy (tylerd):
so whats the figure look like
OpenStudy (tylerd):
or can you give me 2 points that the line touches?
OpenStudy (tylerd):
in (x,y) format

OpenStudy (tylerd):
ok so the rise is 3, the run is 2 so M (slope) = 3/2
OpenStudy (tylerd):
it touches point (4,4) (x,y)
so 4=3/2(4)+b
OpenStudy (tylerd):
so b is -2
OpenStudy (tylerd):
if we set x=4 and y=4 in y=mx+b we get 4=m4+b
and we know m is the slope and the slope is the rise/run
OpenStudy (tylerd):
so finally the equation is y=3/2x-2

thx Tyler!!!!!!!! :)
i wish i could give u more medals lol
OpenStudy (tylerd):
\[y=\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }x-2\]
OpenStudy (tylerd):
ok no problem good luck

Write an equation of the line that is parallel to the given line
y = x + 3 and the given point (5,0).
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is it Y=X-5
OpenStudy (tylerd):
they are paralell so the slope is the same
OpenStudy (tylerd):
0=5+b
yes your right

ok
next ques
Write an equation of the line that is parallel to the given line
y = 2x + 3 and the given point (-4,1).
OpenStudy (tylerd):
1=-8+b
OpenStudy (tylerd):
y=2x+9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry my internet is actin up
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but here it is
Write an equation in slope-intercept form of the line that passes
through the points (-4,2) and (1,-1).

@TylerD can u help with tha ques
OpenStudy (tylerd):
first we need to find the rise/run
which is y2-y1/x2-x1
OpenStudy (tylerd):
\[\frac{ -1-2 }{ 1-(-4) }=\frac{ -3 }{ 5 }\]
OpenStudy (tylerd):
would be the slope (M)
OpenStudy (tylerd):
\[2=(\frac{ -3 }{ 5 })(-4)+b\]
\[2=2.4+b\]

OpenStudy (tylerd):
b=-0.4
so lets test this on the other equation
-1=-3/5-0.4
and it works out
OpenStudy (tylerd):
\[y=\frac{ -3 }{ 5 }x-0.4\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so does m=1
im sorry @TylerD my internet act up n i went 2 get some lunch pls come back *~*
OpenStudy (anonymous):
if i don't answer fast know that my internet is actin up ok @TylerD
OpenStudy (tylerd):
\[m=\frac{ -3 }{ 5 }\]
