Why are enzymes known as biocatalysts?
hi @brycedunnnam ! what do you think the enzymes do in our body?
yeah share your thoughts
the enzymes in our body basically help us to move because our bodies are not designed to do it alone.
the question asked by @biocrystal was how are they functioning...?? what actually they do in the bodily reactions
okay tell me whats a catalyst..??
okay the catalyst are the substances which catalyse (fasten) the chemical reaction.. so enzymes are known as biocatalyst as they catalyse the -----------reactions.. fill the blank left..!!
I looked it up and it said chemical reactions...
what are the reactions that occur in the body
BIO--CATALYST the name itself tells us
well OK then.... lol im only a senior in high school.
ohh.. you have to try as i gave u the clue for the question the clues given by me can help you to know the answer for the question asked by @brycedunnnam
wait......so was I wrong?
see enzymes help in carring out reaction in our body that is they either speed up the reactions or they start the the reaction .therefore they play a role of catalyst in a reaction .and these enzymes are present in a living cell or body so they are called biocatalyst.
Catalysts dont necessarily have to speed up a reaction. In fact its a subject that often annoys chemists that people thing catalysts only spped up reactions. A catalyst is a molecule capable of altering the rate of reaction. BIo refers to it being a natural protein. In the body the natural proteins that alter the rate of reaction are enzymes, thus they are biocatalysts :)
hey @timbra @rusbhara and @JFlaus are right got it now.. that is what i was trying to tel u
