Use the image below to answer the following question. Find the value of sin x° and cos y°. What relationship do the ratios of sin x° and cos y° share? A right triangle is shown with one leg measuring 4 and another leg measuring 3. One angle that is not 90 degrees is marked x and the other angle that is not 90 degrees is marked y.

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

as the triangle is a right angle triangle so by pythagoras theorem 4^2+3^2 = square of third side which gives the third side as 5

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

as sinx =perpendicular/hypotenuse => 4/5 = sinx , cosx = base/hypotenuse => 3/5 = cosx @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

sinx/cosx = 4/3 =>3sinx = 4cosx

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

as the relation b/w sin and cos @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

i got confused with the pythagorean theorem.. what that ?

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

4^2 + 3^2 = 25...

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

pythagoras says if u are given a right angle triangle then the sum of squares of the perpendicular and base of the triangle is always equal to the square of the hypotenuse @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

how did u get 5 ????

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

i.e. perpendicular^2 + base^2 = hypotenuse^2 => in your question p=4, b=3 so, 4^2 + 3^2 = H^2 which means h^2 = 25 and 25 = 5^2 which means hypotenuse = 5

@Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

u there @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

ok

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

gud were u able to understand @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

yes

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

great I was just listening to your song @Gabylovesyou and I wasn't jst able to understand ...

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

so they form the same ratio

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

thats the relationship .. right ?

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

@princeharryyy

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

hmmmm

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

what ratio ? u wanna say

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

sinx/cosx = 4/3 if u wanna say is correct @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

correct ?

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

from the figure sinx = 3/5 and cosy = 3/5 and so you are correct @Gabylovesyou

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

and you are a fast learner @Gabylovesyou gud luck !!!! enjoy !!!! u deserve a medal toooo ....

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

thank you

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

u r welcome ... )))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@princeharryyy im confused on this question will you explain plz like you did to the other person

OpenStudy (princeharryyy):

take a look at the comments above, i hope you'll get it @sksxs3
