Do you have an idea what the linear equation would look like?
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
no..
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
Ok well 30 $ per hour... How could you model that part if "x" is the number of hours?
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
30 * 8.5 ?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
yes that part is good so far :). But there is also an extra $50 charge! so you just need to add that part
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
so $305 ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
yup :)
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
thanks! how about this one
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
1st step... determine how many gallons of gas did they buy?
1 gallon -> 1.35$
x gallon -> 23.50$

do i divide ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
yes
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
so $17.40 ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
well 17.40 gallons
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
(maybe round it to 17.41..)

sorry my computer restarted..
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
so how far did they travel ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
well you have 17.40 gallons, and there is 8 initially in the tank, so 25.4 gallons
Now, 1 gallons gives 27 miles , so:
1 gallon -->27 miles
25.4 gallons --> x miles
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
so divide 27 and 25.4 ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
no, in this case you need to multiply
You can always do this set-up:
\[ \frac{1}{25.4}=\frac{27}{x}\], when you cross multiply you get:
\(1x = 27(25.4)\\
x = 27(25.4)\)

685.8 miles ?
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
yes
OpenStudy (joftheworld):
okay thanks ! next problem..
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
1 gizmo requires 36$ of materials, and 20$ in labour.. so each gizmo costs 56$
OpenStudy (kirbykirby):
Now there are 50 gizmos..
