A catalyst is something which speeds up the reaction without being consumed in the reaction. Enzymes do the same job inside the living organisms and since they are made up of organic materials, they are called as `Biocatalysts`
A catalyst is a chemical that speeds up the rate of a chemical reaction, and an enzyme works to break down biological matter, such as food in the mouth. Our teeth could break down food just by chewing. With the aid or help of enzymes, the process more efficient and faster. I agree with Abhisar
@jeeppgirl just to clarify...it's not necessary that enzymes only help in breaking down food materials. That's just one function of enzyme. Enzyme is basically a catalyst as i said above. It catalyzes many biological reactions like transcription, translation etc....Remember `Helicase` enzyme ?
