I would like to write a song about some thing but every time I come up with some lyrics I get really stuck and I'm never able to finish the song. Can any one teach me the basics to writing a good song like a professional?

Any time I write lyrics, I use sorta a mesh of rhyming and free verses...PM me and I can try to explain from there.

The trick to writing a song is at first, don't write lyrics. If you want a good song, write a story. Write a story with a slight theme maybe but first the story. Of what happened or what to learn. Or whatever you want it about. Focus on meaning, not the lyrics them self. When you are done, then change the story into verses, then from there edit a few words here and there to create a rythem, rhyme, and tempo.

I've tried that before and it just doesn't work for me....not saying it wont for him but, I just went with making my own method of music writing.

I would go even broader than that @Blink-182 . Approach by just writing, just write your thoughts down for a set time every day. Have something to write on and with when inspiration strikes. Just write. After some time, you'll find patterns or lines that really stick out to you. You can start meshing these with their theme and work towards your songs. Don't push it. If you go blank, just leave and come back to it the next day or another time. Pushed lyrics are always bad. And after you feel it's good, take a few weeks to continue editing the lyrics (with time away from them, for better connection of ideas). The first times it won't be great, maybe not even good. But keep at it, and you'll become an excellent songwriter after time and practice. Good luck, guitarplayer

You want to bring the listener in, and make it personal. So keep that in mind as well. (Watch your point of views) @blade_lover
