OpenStudy (jacksonjrb):

Need help with radical equation. Will give medals!

OpenStudy (jacksonjrb):

\[\sqrt{x-3}+\sqrt{x}=3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it were me, i would guess rather than do a raft of algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of a small number \(x\) where \(x\) is a perfect square, and also \(x-3\) is a perfect square there are not too many that work in fact, only one

OpenStudy (jacksonjrb):

I need to show work though...

OpenStudy (jacksonjrb):

x equals 4 but how do i get 4 algebraically?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say the solution is that \(4\) works, no need for "algebra"

OpenStudy (jacksonjrb):

But I need to show work to get credit. :P
