OpenStudy (ybarrap):

Do you know derivatives?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont think ive been taught that yet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait isnt that just max and min values?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

rest position = height = 0 from your graph when is the height =0 (between 7 and 8 sec) yes this would be the minimum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so rest position is when the height is =0? @triciaal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the minimum for this function is 5 so would that be the rest position?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

I still think the rest position is when the height = 0 between 7 and 8 sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that would be undefined because it will never reach 0

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

By graphing, you can see that the maximum occurs at t=0. When the pendulum comes back after one cycle, it will rise to this maximum displacement, stop and then start back down again. Note that due to symmetry, the maximum will also occur at 14 seconds. |dw:1408667593786:dw| Does this make sense?
