In the figure below, angle y and angle x form vertical angles. Angle y forms a straight line with the 80° angle and the 60° angle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

determine the measure of angle x.

@princeharyyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@terenzreignz

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

seems easy enough

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

What you have to understand is that the 60, 80, and x form a straight line, don't they?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

@iceicebaby still awake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah im up im up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@terenzreignz

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I asked you something ^ :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah they do

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

and what angle forms a straight line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

90 i think

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

That's a right angle. :P

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

What forms a STRAIGHT angle?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I'm getting sleepy, @iceicebaby Could we make this quicker? ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk do you know

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Of course I know, but you have to learn too :) Now, what angle forms a straight line? ^_^

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I'll try my best to get you up to speed, but I might just fall asleep any moment now, so if I don't respond within a minute, then, I'm probably down :)

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

@iceicebaby You still there? I need you to work with me here -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes im here i understand

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

You understand? I just asked you a question :/

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

What angle forms a straight line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give me a sec

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

don't take too much time :) seriously... I'm so tired D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 180?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

YES. Exactly. 180. Now, since they form a straight line, they have to add up to 180. 60 + 80 + x = 180 Now solve for x. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well then x would be 180 correct ? @terenzreignz

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

replace x with 180 and check.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

And... is it correct?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

I'm really tired, now, @iceicebaby ten minutes, I'm signing off... so you'd do well to make the most of it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i think so

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

60 + 80 + x = 180 replace x with 180 60 + 80 + 180 = 180 is it correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x has to equal 40 then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause if you replace 180 with x then it would have to be 40 if they all equal 180 together

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

x has to equal 40, yes. And that's the answer. Good job... finally ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok cool
