Any help? Will fan and medal

Given f(x) and g(x) = f(x) + k, look at the graph below and determine the value of k. k = ______

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What lol

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

look at the poeple viewing lol

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

the one with the purple outline is a mod xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well that means he can help. Duhh

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

or shut down the quastion lol (they tend to go fo ones that say will fan and medal O-o)

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

oh ok good xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha, well as far as the question...they have the same slope, different y intercepts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I honestly have no Idea how to even start or do this.

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

i do but cant read the graph and the zoom button isnt working lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess I could have worded that better... f(x) is g(x) but moved up. You can look at the graph to figure out how it's moved up. What's the y intercept of f(x) and what's the y intercept of g(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm.. Your asking the wrong person lol.. I am absolutely clueless

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

the mod apears to be a SLOW typer O_o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha, ok. So f(x) crosses at 2, g(x) crosses at 5. Do you see that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so if g(x)=f(x)+k, k is going to move the line. So to find that, you can subtract 2 from 5. That is going to be k.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 5-2=k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is that the answer or just a part of the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your answer is k. So 5-2=k. 3=k. So 3 would be your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooh okay I see now. Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think of it like this...f(x) and g(x) are slope intercepts. f(x) is\[y=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }x+2\]and g(x) is \[y=\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }x+5\]See how they are the same thing except for the y intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. Thanks.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

k = 2/3(x) + 7
