PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS In the expression a^b Which answers are true? The value of b is an exponent? The value a tells you how many times to multiply b by itself The value a must be > 1 The value b tells you how many times to multiply a by itself The value b must be an integer

OpenStudy (bibby):

what does 4^3 or 3^2 mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 * 4 * 4 and 3 *3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C and B are incorrect i believe. And A and D are correct, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With the expression \(a^b\): -\(b\) is called the exponent, so thats true. -The value of \(a\) does NOT tell you how many times to multiply \(b\) by itself. -Also, the value of a does not necessarily have to be greater than one. A counter example is the completely valid exponential expression \((0.5)^b\)

OpenStudy (bibby):

Fractional exponents are a thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b does in fact tell you how many times to multiply a by itself, and b can be any number such in the example: \(a^{0.65324}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@KeithAfasCalcLover so are my answers a,d,and e

OpenStudy (bibby):

Read, my sweet summer's child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Only A and D :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the value b does not have to be an integer?

OpenStudy (bibby):

you're misreading the question keith

OpenStudy (bibby):

I'm pretty sure "The value of b is an exponent? " isn't A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha i see. I misunderstood that...then yeah just C is true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am 100% positive that A and D are true

OpenStudy (bibby):

A is wrong. it's a misleading version of C B is wrong because we can do (0.5)^2 C is correct. 4^3 means multiply a by itself 3 times. D is wrong because we can do things like \[\large4^{\frac{1}{2}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And yes, b does not have to be an integer...is A: The value a tells you how many times to multiply b by itself Because then it is false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what how can A be wrong. In the express a^b, b is the exponent

OpenStudy (bibby):

wait, I don't understand. Is it a - e or a - d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a-e

OpenStudy (bibby):

jesus, sorry keith

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a.The value of b is an exponent? b.The value a tells you how many times to multiply b by itself c.The value a must be > 1 d.The value b tells you how many times to multiply a by itself e.The value b must be an integer

OpenStudy (bibby):

okay, that was unclear. I thought A was "b.The value a tells you how many times to multiply b by itself "

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what are the answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha then A and D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it doesnt have to be an integer correct?

OpenStudy (bibby):

A is correct. B is wrong. it's a misleading version of C C is wrong because we can do \(\large(0.5)^2\) D is correct. 4^3 means multiply a by itself 3 times. E is wrong because we can do things like \(\large4^{\frac{1}{2}}\)

OpenStudy (bibby):

much betterrrrrrrrrr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay haha im happy we all got it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Keith I gave you best answer, please give bibby best answer

OpenStudy (bibby):

lol it's cool. feel free to tag me as @bibby in any following questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha will do
