ITS NOT LETTING ME OPEN ITUNES
@dan815
can he help me.
he sure can
yay.
ok calm down
we can solve this problem together, but I cant do it for you
tell me everything you know so far pertaining to this problem
I have a Mac, and it just stopped opening. I tried to restart, reinstall the newest software, and making a new account and it still won't open.
Do you see a blue dot under the iTunes logo on the dock?
no.
Do you currently have a backup of all data on the computer? (Not related, but just in case, its always good to have a backup) I would recommend booting up into whats called Safe Mode. Basically you shut the computer down all the way. Then turn it back on. Immediately after you hear the startup chime, hold the Shift key. You can release the shift key after you see the gray apple logo and the spinning gear. Allow it to run for between 90-120 seconds... Now while you are still in safe mode, open Disc Utilities. Select the hard drive on the left panel and then run Verify Disc. If there is an error let me know, but there shouldn't be one. After you verify the disc, you can then press repair disc permissions. After the permissions repair has completed click on the iTunes logo and see if it opens. (dont worry about the lack of sound. sound is disabled in safe mode) If it does open, you can expect it to open after a restart into normal mode. Let me know if you have any questions.
what.
What what?
idk what you just said to do.
Restart the computer. After the chime, press shift. After you see the spinning gear, release the shift button. Allow the testing to run for about 2 mins. Open Disc Utilities. Select your harddrive. Press Verify Disc. After it has completed, press repair disc permissions. Open iTunes.
okay that's better, hold on.
now my computer is acting retarded thanks a lot.. smh
Safe mode should not make a computer act "retarded". It limits the some of the functions of a computer so that you can find out what is going on.
oh sorry, but i didn't see anything about a disc thing after i pressed shift.
You didnt see a spinning gear?
i don't think so.
I just did it to my other computer. Just press shift once you turn on the computer, and hold it until you see a status bar at the bottom of the screen. Let the status bar complete and then you should be able to get to disc utilities.
Easiest reference to get to disc utilities if you have to take the long way, press finder, then on the top of the screen on the same row as the apple, press go, then press utilities. Find disk utilities
i seen the status bar but nothing else.
You have to let the status bar run for lets say 3 minutes until it completes. Its running a check on your computer
okay i did it the long way, what do i do now.
Press verify disc.
i did, now what.
Do you see a green line of text at the bottom saying complete?
It should say the volume appears to be OK.
no it doesn't say anything.
It should say at least Verifying volume. If not, the wrong button was pressed.
Verifying volume “Macintosh 1”Checking file systemPerforming live verification.Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.Checking catalog hierarchy.Checking extended attributes file.Checking volume information. thats what it says.
Great! Its doing its thing. Sit back and relax while your computer checks the file system.
it's done already.
Great! Now press verify disk permissions.
Permissions verification complete.
Great! Now try to open iTunes.
It didn't work.
