How do you change a fraction into a whole number? It's been a while since I've had to, so I forgot.

OpenStudy (cj49):

9/5 divide 9 by 5 you get 1 remainder 4 the 1 becomes your whole number, the 4 becomes your numerator and the 5 becomes your denaminator. It would look like this 1 4/5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, but what if your fraction is 2640/5280?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Turn it into a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because thats less than a whole number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I turn it into a decimal though? I swear I haven't done this is a long time, I lost it in my brain on how to do this stuff.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well thats half so it would be point five. And you do it the same way as turning it into a whole numberr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay. So is there any special technique or way that I can remember and keep in my head for later?

hero (hero):

Hint: 2640 is half of 5280 By the way, 2640/5280 can be simplified to a prime fraction, but not a whole number. In order to reduce a fraction to a whole number, the numerator must be greater than the denominator which in turn must be a factor of the numerator. Example: 6/2 = 3 Notice that 6 > 2 and 2 is a factor of 6.

Okay, thanks!
