OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
say what's the slope of " y=5/8x+8 " anyway?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I have no idea
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It just gives me four answers to choose from
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
well... have you covered slopes yet?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, I am in a college algebra class and I suck really bad at algebra. We did slopes and the lines last week and I didn't understand it then.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
well for this case \(\bf y={\color{purple}{ \cfrac{5}{8}}}x+8\) see the slope now?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, I see the slope now.
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
well.. a line that's perpendicular to that one, will have a NEGATIVE RECIPROCAL slope
so \(\bf {\color{purple}{ \cfrac{5}{8}}}\qquad negative\implies -{\color{purple}{ \cfrac{5}{8}}}\qquad reciprocal\implies -{\color{purple}{ \cfrac{8}{5}}}\)
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
so one with that slope is, perpendicular to the line of that equation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok.... I think I see what you are talking about. and you had to flip it to get it's reciprocal.
