If 0.999... = 1, what does 1 mean on the interval [0, 1). 1 is excluded from the interval, and I always imagined that it represented 0.999... but that's equal to 1 apparently.

OpenStudy (zarkon):

just that 1 is not included (and so neither is \(.\overline{9}\))

OpenStudy (zarkon):

\[[0,1)=\{x\in\mathbb{R}|0\le x<1\}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would the value just before 1 be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Zarkon

OpenStudy (zarkon):

there isn't one

OpenStudy (zarkon):

any value you pick less than one I can find a number that is even closer to one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm ok I find that interesting :) thanks
