ik this doesnt have anything to do with math but anyone good with allusions in writing??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have a question im doing an essay on what current music says about america

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and in it i need to use 1 allusion and 2 participles

OpenStudy (phi):

alluding means not saying something directly... more like hinting at it. Example: instead of writing "the music is horrible", you say, "most people turn off the radio when that song comes on." or "There is some disagreement about that music".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so how could i use this in a sentence im just talking about how diverse it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like if i wanna say turning on the radio is like _______ like something creative to use??? idk

OpenStudy (phi):

if you say turning on the radio is like waving a magic wand, filling the room with shimmering sound... that is more like simile.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok i gotcha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and now can u tell me what is participle and how use it

OpenStudy (phi):

for an allusion, it would be more like The music had the couple floating about the floor like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. (alluding to a famous dance couple in the movies)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks and whats participle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it like adding ing- to the end of words

OpenStudy (phi):

A participle is a word formed from a verb which can be used as an adjective. Think of a verb (action word) the sun is rising a participle uses the verb as an adjective: the rising sun, or the risen sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok and one last thing what is metonymy

OpenStudy (phi):

Metonymy is a figure of speech in which a thing or concept is not called by its own name, but by the name of something intimately associated with it. the pen is mightier than the sword pen is used in place of "the written word"
