Can someone check this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it 3/2

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

How did you conclude that b = 3/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know if I can explain it very well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

range= {y-|a|+c<y<|a|+c,yeR}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats kind of what I used

hartnn (hartnn):

since a is positive |a| =a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so then you have 1+4

hartnn (hartnn):

you have -a+b = -1 a+b =4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then b=4?

hartnn (hartnn):

no......if you add those, you indeed get b=3/2 you're correct, i was just showing you the method :)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I'm still wondering why we care about the sign of 'a'. If the range is [-1,4], the midpoint of the Range is 3/2. Who cares about 'a'?

hartnn (hartnn):

true, even if a is negative, range won't change
