Ok so this equation is confusing -243=-9(10+x) My answer is 153 (the one i have wrong) But it says the real answer is 17 but how? since i did pemdas and distributed first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Ashleyisakitty can you maybe help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by -9 and then subtract 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how since there is parenthesis there i cant D:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my answer was 153=x i cant divide anymore and i searched up the worksheet and the answer was 17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you can! ok listen the problem is pretty much saying that -243= the sum of x+10 times nine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x+10 itself, since it's in parentheses is like it's own number already, it's almost like 9x, it's its own entity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide -243 by -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you are left with 10+x, then you must subtract ten, and you get 17, just like the worksheet said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you are doing things like this, you must do pemdas backwards

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh thanks shirley I didnt get it. Im not that much of a math wiz .3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah it's ok this stuff always confused me when i was in algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not in algebra though i used too im in geometry but my effin teacher is giving out warm up problems with alg 1 i get confused cuz of that im doing good in geometry but algebra is not my thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kshirley

OpenStudy (anonymous):

geometry is very easy, but you must know basic algebra to get anywhere in math, geometry is kind of irrelevant in upper level maths. when you do problems like this remember to try to get rid of the things farthest away from the variable first. if anything go to khan academy (google it) and they have a ton of helpful stuff @FweaBoyLive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks again for your help shirley :D your a lifesaver :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem, good luck w geometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
