FAN + MEDAL Steven would like to buy a more fuel efficient car instead of the car she is currently driving. Assuming she can find a car that gets 28 miles per gallon and her current car only gets 17 miles per gallon, how much will she save in a year if she drives 4,500 miles per year and the price of gasoline is $3.50 per gallon?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many 17s are in 4500? how many 28s are in 4500? whats the difference beween them?

OpenStudy (pandalife):

4483-4475?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not quite sure youre working that as needed

OpenStudy (amistre64):

17 goes into 4500, 4500/17 times 28 has a similar process.

OpenStudy (pandalife):

264.705-160.714?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this tells us how many gallons are used up by each car 17n per n gallons; 17n = 4500 28m per m gallons; 28m = 4500 |m-n| = number of gallons saved, which is then multipied by the cost per gallon

OpenStudy (pandalife):

363 thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im not sure what the decimal would be .... the wolf says thats good for decimals

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah, 104 gallons is the difference, so yeah, close to 364

OpenStudy (pandalife):

to late @dan815 . thanks @amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome :)
