Given the function f(x) = 4(x+3) − 5, solve for the inverse function when x = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so to solve for an inverse function, there is a series of steps. Step one, replace f(x) with y f(x) = y y = 4(x+3) - 5 Step two, interchange the x and y in the equation. x = 4(y+3) - 5 Step three, solve for y (You do this part) Step four, replace y with y^-1(x)

OpenStudy (aum):

Step four, replace y with \(f^{-1}(x)\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Excuse me, it's not y^-1(x), it is f^-1(x), \[f ^{-1}(x) = ...\]This is how we denote an inverse function properly
