A student says that the square root of 7 is a rational number because you can write the square root of 7 as the quotient of the square root of 7 over 1. Is the student correct? Explain why.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is incorrect because the definition of a rational number is the ratio of two INTEGERS not the ratio of two numbers

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

otherwise all numbers would be rational and the term "rational" would have no meaning
