Am I Right? queston> In this excerpt, how does the author account for the man's position in the painting? My Answer> The man is in pain from working with the hoe all day. Story>Bowed by the weight of centuries he leans Upon his hoe and gazes on the ground, The emptiness of ages in his face, And on his back, the burden of the world. Who made him dead to rapture and despair, A thing that grieves not and that never hopes, Stolid and stunned, a brother to the ox?
Choices> A. The man is hampered by years of despair and bleakness. B. The man is exhausted from working with the oxen in the fields. C. The man is in pain from working with the hoe all day.
Well, the world is what made him exhausted, so the "working with the hoe" is a metaphor fro the "weight of the world" What do u think makes the most sense then?
i dont know, i wanna say working with a hoe cause being out all day can be a pain but being outside with oxen can be exhausting @ericanoel912
"Bowed by the weight of centuries he leans" and "And on his back, the burden of the world." are the key phrases. The hoe and oxen are metaphor, I'm like 95% sure
so B would be the answer then? @ericanoel912
No, A.
