OpenStudy (anonymous):
hold on a sec

|dw:1409335387487:dw|
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry for that line I did not mean to draw it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what do you think the first step would be

Well I think that you would have to simplify the fraction I just don't really know how
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no first you should make the numbers (constants) in a side and the Y (variables) in the othe side of the "equal" sign
now try to do this
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how do I do that?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
well how do you think you can isolate y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I don't know. sorry I am really bad at this

what about the 5. how can u move it to the other side
OpenStudy (anonymous):
by adding it to both sides?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no sorry I meant subtracting it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
good! do that. tell me what the new equation looks like now
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes do it what do you get ?

I got y/-2 =8
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thats right
now eliminate the denominator (-2) to isolate y
OpenStudy (anonymous):
good! so what is teh opposite of division
OpenStudy (anonymous):
multiplication
OpenStudy (anonymous):
good so do you see any form of division here

well would we multiply -2 on both sides?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
good!
now tell me what the euqation looks like right now
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y=-16
OpenStudy (anonymous):
that is the answer then ;)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thank you guys for helping me understand this I think I got it but, I am confused on another one I have.
